Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. That may well be so, Joshua Jonathan, but there should be something (anything) about the broad strokes of that on the talk page (i.e. limiting it to edit summaries falls short). Current requests for reduction in protection level

[edit]
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Thank you Axedd for being in touch and Jéské for the ping. Axedd, you are already able to edit this article in the currently protected state. For context, there have been over 18 different page protections applied over the years due to long term abuse, block evasion, and persistent disruption in general. In light of this, was there any specific reason that you're looking to see this page unprotected? Regards, Yamaguchi先生 (talk) 23:34, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

Reason: The article was protected back in 2010, when protecting standards were far lower. I believe it's now ready to go unprotected, Cheers. 50.100.53.53 (talk) 04:02, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

Suggested action: Lower to WP:WHITELOCK/WP:PCPP to prevent disruptive editing from cryptospammers while still allowing for broader contribution from legitimate editors (especially IPs like me). Current requests for edits to a protected page

[edit]
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

This, I think, is the first time I've made a suggestion. Hopefully, I'm doing this correctly.

The lateral fricative voiced retroflex, as an example, has an IPA representation of ɖɭ˔ according to its Wikipedia page, but the IPA Pulmonic table and other tables use the Unicode representation in the table and any font I have found just doesn't handle that character,

Would it be better to use the IPA representation which I think many fonts handle since the table has 'IPA' in its title and its link points to the Wikipedia page with both representations? The linked article each cell in the table states that the representation the IPA version and that the Unicode character is implied from that.

I'd be happy to make a list of each table and cell where this occurs if that is necessary and you think these will be worthwhile changes. BLWBebopKid (talk) 19:51, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

Pinging @Kwamikagami as they are likely to have some insight to these issues. For me personally, I'm not sure. I happen to have fonts installed that handle the extIPA symbols, but I'm in the stark minority there. Remsense ‥  01:46, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
ExtIPA is IPA. It's just a specialized subset. For example, extIPA can be used in the 'Illustrations of the IPA' published in JIPA.
The issue is one of font support. The letters in question date to 2015, though they weren't added to Unicode until 2021. There are websites that list fonts that support various characters. These are supported by the SIL fonts, which are the best free IPA fonts available. If you don't have a good font installed, you're not going to be able to view IPA correctly anyway. That's why we have the IPA notice in articles, that you may need to install an IPA font to view the article properly. — kwami (talk) 05:32, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

Autopatrolled

[edit]

User:Pbritti told me to. Apparently I qualify, and I've been cranking out a decent number of articled recently. Been editing Wikipedia on and off since 2009, been editing more regularly for the last year or two. Been a rollbacker and pending changes reviewer for almost 12 years. I created one GA and have taken two articles from being just a few sentences to GA status, a few more nominations in the pipeline. ~Darth StabroTalk  Contribs 02:51, 4 December 2024 (UTC)

Stating my support here. Encouraged him to seek this. He's told me about his plans for future articles and they seem to involve careful research up to GNG standards. His recent work has passed through GA and DYK, so quality is there. ~ Pbritti (talk) 02:56, 4 December 2024 (UTC)

During the temporary stint granted as autopatrolled, I have created over 100 pages following the suggestions of the admin. Have been consistently adding relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them. Have also started using Rater and StubSorter. I, Indonesiainfo24, hereby request to be granted the Autopatrolled status on Wikipedia. I have been actively contributing to the creation and maintenance of articles on Wikipedia, and I always strive to adhere to the guidelines and policies in place, including neutrality, verifiability, and article quality standards.

The reasons I am requesting this status are as follows:

  • I have contributed to articles that have been published, making improvements and adding relevant information.
  • I am familiar with the guidelines for good and proper writing on Wikipedia.
  • I have not engaged in vandalism or any other violations of Wikipedia's policies.

I hope my request will be considered, and I am committed to continuing my contributions in a manner that aligns with Wikipedia’s guidelines.

Particularly for tasks like fixing broken templates and adding article-improvement templates. Since I frequently go through hundreds of articles a day via Huggle, AWB would help by allowing me to quickly add these templates without having to manually search for them and copy-paste them into each article. A recent issue that comes to mind was dealing with a few instances of {{cn}} spam, as seen here and here. This would help clear up stuff like this. Synorem (talk) 03:32, 18 November 2024 (UTC)

I see that there is a large backlog, so I would like to help reduce it, especially the redirects, as I have more experience with them. I have not created any articles, but I have read the tutorials for NPR and related pages, so I will not make any unintentional (or intentional) detrimental edits. I am familiar with WP:BLAR, WP:PROD and WP:AfD, and have behaved civilly with other editors. DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 11:20, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

I would like to become an NPR to help reduce the work, I regularly intervene on drafts and edit them to format them and put banners or comments to advise the creator on the steps to follow so that this draft becomes eligible, in the case that it is possible. I know the rules of Wikipedia and the essential points determining if an article is eligible or not. I see drafts being submitted but they are clearly not ready to be accepted and unfortunately I can't do anything at this time. While I am familiar with AfC and article creation (three articles under my name, working on a fourth), I am admittedly not terribly familiar with AfD, PROD, or CSD. However, I am reading and re-reading these pages to familiarize myself. I believe I have a favorable history of interaction. I've been on Wikipedia for over a decade, and I have absorbed much, though I still have a significant amount to learn; that being said, I wish to become more active and more directly-involved. No behavioral blocks or 3RR violations. I commit to 'patrol' on a voluntary basis and to avoid conflicts of interest. Thank you for your time and consideration! MWFwiki (talk) 03:28, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for volunteering, MWFwiki. Looking at AfCstats, unless there's a mistake there, it doesn't look like you've reviewed any AfC articles? And as far as article creation goes, we're really looking for something more in the range of 25+ creations You don't have to do them all, but even from someone with your experience we need to see some prior experience in at least one of the areas mentioned under point 2 of WP:NPRCRITERIA before granting this right, sorry –  Not done for the bot. Please do consider giving WP:AFC reviewing a go. – Joe (talk) 07:56, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
Sure, thing! Thank you :-) MWFwiki (talk) 10:28, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

I believe I meet all of the NPP criteria. I have experience at AFD, having a lifetime match rate of around 80%, and have been a reviewer at AFC as well. I don't believe I have any other significant issues. I wish to gain this right in order to help with the backlog of new pages needing review, both in order to help the community and to gain more experience. Hello! I am requesting again for New Page Reviewer, although quite fast but I am a fast lerner. I just wanna have a trial here since I am helping sometimes in NewPagesFeed like maintenance tags like {{unreferenced}}, {{orphan}} and {{uncategorized}} or rarely i clean up the articles too, it just a minor helps. I am a AfC reviewer too since October 2024. I can multitasking on New Page and reviewing draft articles in afc. Although, I have a blocked here but it was a misunderstanding and false blocking so they unblock my account. I am participating on AfD and sometimes i nominate it, also on CSD too in NewPageFeed, if I see a just a spam, vandalism or a promotion of a article, i immediately add a csd. If you granted me, it will my pleasure. Thanks! Royiswariii Talk! 16:20, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

Not done. You still have not taken the advice given to you and lack the appropriate experience at this point in time. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:51, 10 December 2024 (UTC)

Hi! I'd love to help out with the backlog. I have around ~40 AfD !votes, and I'm usually one of the first votes and always use strong guideline-backed reasoning. I've only had 1 AfD in the "red" cell of AfD Stats, that was a bio of a person from a non-English speaking country, and I tried to find sources in my WP:BEFORE, but nothing come up, and then another user more familiar with that country was able to dig something up so I withdrew (I don't think it should count as a black mark against me). I've also reviewed a lot of AfC submissions (a good amount of them sadly don't show in the AfC tool as they were later deleted, but there's still a decent chunk in there), and I almost always provide personalized advice backed with good reasoning when declining. You can find my CSD log here (n. 10, 100% success): User:MolecularPilot/CSD_Log, and I've also created 5 articles (see my user page), 4 of which are B class. Thanks for your time! :) MolecularPilot 🧪️✈️ 05:30, 10 December 2024 (UTC)

Adding that I'm also very experienced in cleaning formatting, copy editing, wiki linking etc. as I often do that before accepting AfC submissions, and for evidence of criteria #3 about being kind to new users, I think I've helped a good amount of users understand policies/guidelines/reasons for AfC declines etc, a small subset of these can by verified on my user talk page and I'm also very active on the help IRC (admittedly less during the last week due to a personal event). I'm also knowledgable about copyvios, having cleaned a decent amount, informing users about our policy, answering any questions they sent to me and requesting revdel. I've also reviewed around 20 cases on CopyPatrol. Thanks again for your time :) MolecularPilot 🧪️✈️ 05:32, 10 December 2024 (UTC)

I've read and understood WP:RPC and will proceed slowly at first (that is, leave what I deem edge cases to someone else). JayCubby Talk 17:23, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

Requests for rollback

Rollback

[edit]

My next logical request for permission, one that I don't suppose I can utilize alongside Ultraviolet to stop the bad faith one-timers and vandals where I watch. Although, I must admit, I should simultaneously take care to not get into any content dispute I see; I'll do my best not to get into one this way. Thanks for considering (again). 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 01:40, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

P.S.: as a sure guarantee my use of rollback is done safely and without causing any significant issue, I'll use Mr. Stradivarius' ConfirmRollback. 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 01:45, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

I would like rollback permissions to make fighting vandalism quicker and easier. I have been reverting vandalism for over 1 month and have experience with tools such as Twinkle and Ultraviolet. I would also like to be able to have access to Huggle to make my anti-vandalism experience easier. MouseCursor (talk) 13:46, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

This permission will help me in combating vandalism. I’ve been actively patrolling recent changes, always warning users when necessary, assuming good faith, and taking full responsibility for all my edits. I also do crosswiki patrolling and recently joined the SWMT. — Jet Pilot (talk) 21:03, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

Yeah, that's true. Jet Pilot (talk) 22:23, 10 December 2024 (UTC)

Hello! I had been actively patrolling RC in 2023 but paused for a long time since I was too busy. I plan to resume soon and would like rollback rights to make it easier. However, I mostly edit on my school computer so I am unable to use any tools such as Huggle, RedWarn, etc. Thank you for considering my request.

Note from 07:07, 6 December 2024 (UTC): I had just been informed that RedWarn can be used on a school computer, so it's very likely that I will be using it. xRozuRozuteacups 23:57, 5 December 2024 (UTC)

I have been reverting vandalism by undoing edits, warning users, and monitoring several pages to keep them protected. Rollback rights would make my efforts faster and more efficient. I am familiar with WP:VANDAL. ZyphorianNexus (talk) 07:15, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

"Do you want to take a survey?"

    [edit]

On Feb. 12, 2005, I did a random pages survey. Out of 100 random pages, only 1 was a U.S. town. That's progress. Three towns in the UK, 1 in Spain and 1 in Portugal also turned up. Overall biographies were the largest category at 22%, followed by geography with 15% total. Then Lists at 7%, Disambiguation pages at 6%.

On Feb. 24, 2006, I repeated the 100 random page survey, this time getting 5 U.S. towns. Overall, geography had 26%, biography 21%, fiction 9%, music 4%, colleges 4%, lists 3% and disambigs 4%. Clearly geography and biography are our largest areas. Music, science and business scored less than I expected. Non-individual History was hardly discernable.

Even by Feb. 2005, 100 out of almost 500,000 was not statistically significant but was as much as I had patience for.

More recently 1,250 or so edits on 75.41.110.200 are apparently all mine. Apparently my new ID is 75.41.109.190. There are undoubtedly many others as the earliest history of many articles was not preserved by the software.
